Website Content - K2 Intelligence Africa and the Middle East

Africa and the Middle East are facing a period of profound change that presents a unique mix of exciting business opportunities but also commercial, legal, and reputational challenges. K2 Intelligence provides well-resourced intelligence, local knowledge, and expert analysis to inform our clients’ strategic decision-making.

About Us

Across Africa and the Middle East, there are a wide range of legal systems and governments, all with varying levels of enforcement of the rule of law and access to public records. This often leads to concerns—and real risks—for businesses operating, investing, or opening in these markets. However, opportunities abound for those companies that enter with the right information.

We have a dedicated Africa and Middle East team that helps our clients capitalize on these prospects and avoid the pitfalls of these sometimes unreliable jurisdictions.

Our team understands the unique requirements of each client and how they may differ from country to country. To match these needs, we provide our clients with customized and actionable intelligence by leveraging a network of local investigators, key sources, and legal teams. Together, we help our clients navigate through unfamiliar cultural and regulatory landscapes and strictly adhere to international and local anti-bribery and corruption laws. We have also aided local governments, which have chosen us to design and implement programs to improve the capabilities of their intelligence, law enforcement, and financial investigation units.

DLx: A new kind of law firm for a new kind of economy

Technology, People, Law: Our blockchain.

Technology

We understand the technology. We speak the language. We walk the cutting edge.

Blockchain has the potential to transform how we do business—across industries, across borders. We are part of that change. By working with and helping develop distributed ledger technologies, we have gained invaluable insight into how they work and what that means for your business.

People

Your business is more than your technology—it’s your people.

To us, the billable hour isn’t the goal. Working with you is. From day one, we work as an extension of your team. Whether you’re developing new technology or raising capital, we partner closely with you to get you a leg up.

Law

As blockchain technology evolves, so does the legal landscape. As do we.

From traditional legal backgrounds to the frontlines of blockchain innovation, we have developed the legal expertise and business acumen to help you navigate the law and make it work for you.

Website Content - DLx Law “Partnering with You”

Our business model serves you, not the other way around.

Our relationship with you is our priority. But it’s hard for that to be the case if we’re chasing the billable hour and you’re trying to keep costs down. That’s why, instead, we do business in a way that inspires confidence and develops a team atmosphere, so you know we’re on your side.

How do we do this? We work with you…

…to determine the best pricing model for you

We employ alternative fee arrangements, billing technology, and creative staffing to make sure you get the legal services you need for the price you want.

…to help you understand the regulatory landscapes your customers face

Many industries for which blockchain is most useful are heavily regulated. That means any tool they use will have to meet certain legal standards. Working with you from the start means we can help you approach your customers with a product that will sail through their legal teams’ reviews.

…to innovate for your customers

With a seat at the table, we brainstorm with you from the very beginning on how new products and technologies can help your customers navigate their regulatory burdens more efficiently.

Article - K2 Intelligence: How Much Does the Public Know About Cybersecurity?

How much does the public know about cybersecurity? Not nearly enough

On 22 March 2017, the Pew Research Center released “What the Public Knows About Cybersecurity.” The report was based on a survey of 13 questions designed to test Americans’ knowledge on a variety of cybersecurity topics, from strong passwords to ransomware. The report found that, “A majority of internet users can answer fewer than half the questions correctly...” Given the importance of cybersecurity both for personal information and for the world’s businesses, the lack of knowledge is particularly disconcerting.

“Of the 13 questions in the survey, a substantial majority of online adults were able to correctly answer just two of them,” the report relates. To read more about what the public knows and doesn’t know, download a copy of the report.

What this means

According to Austin Berglas, head of K2 Intelligence’s Cyber Defense practice, “With few exceptions, the majority of the successful breaches start because a cyber criminal exploits an employee or third party who had connectivity inside the target network,” (“The Threat from Within,” Risk & Insurance, 3 Mar. 2017). The results of this survey explain why it’s so easy for hackers to take advantage of employees, but they also hint at a solution: education.

What you can do

While you do need a multidimensional cybersecurity strategy, one major way to help keep your company secure is training. All levels of personnel need to have a sufficient level of proficiency in cyber threats and defense. That’s where we can help. Taking into account your specific situation and needs and current attack models and threats, K2 Intelligence can tailor on-site trainings and live simulations to educate your employees.

As the report suggests and facts support, your employees can be one of your biggest liabilities in the fight to secure your company. But with the right training, they can also be one of your strongest lines of defense.
